"Maurice Strong, a Canadian, is the world's leading environmentalist and has been working at senior levels for over 30 years in business, government and international organisations. He was secretary-general of both the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. which launched the world environment movement, and the 1992 Rio Environmental Summit. He also served as the first executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Mr Strong now spends most of his time in China. where he is an honorary professor at Peking University, Tongji University (Shanghai) and Environmental Management College of China, and honorary board chairman of the Peking University Environment Fund."
